In 1984, besides Mitsubishi there were 15 other semiconductor companies developing products for the highly competitive 256K DRAM memory chip market: Fujitsu, IBM, AT&T Technology Systems, Motorola, AMD, National Semiconductor, Intel, NEC, Hitachi, Mostek, Micron Technology, Oki Electric, Toshiba, Texas Instruments & Matsushita Electric - Panasonic.
Mitsubishi Semiconductor would continue to manufacture DRAM memory chips until they ceased production on March 31st 2003.
