BOSCH Semiconductors automotive Integrated Circuit Microchip (1980s)

Items #1016 & 1019
Lapel pin from Bosch features one of their automotive Integrated Circuit chips.
As one of the first electronics suppliers to the automotive industry, Bosch began with the development and production of integrated circuits for vehicle electronics as early as the 1960's.
In 1979, Bosch would create their own Engine Control Unit (ECU), called the "Motronic", which used a derivative of an 8051 microcontroller chip, manufactured for Bosch by Siemens Semiconductor.
The Motronic ECU would be used in many Volvo, Porsche, VW and BMW cars throughout the 1980s.
