Taiwan Semiconductor's new Fab 21

Phase 1 and 2 are now under construction 
in Phoenix, Arizona (USA)

TSMC's first semiconductor foundry Fab in the state of Arizona will produce 5nm chips, then 3nm chips for potiential customers including AMD, Apple, ARM, Broadcom, Marvell, MediaTek, Qualcomm and Nvidia.

 This plant is designed to produce the most advanced semiconductor chips in the world. It is believed that this plant will be used to produce chips for the latest 5G technology, as well as for other cutting-edge applications.

The plant is also expected to create thousands of jobs in the region, and to provide a major economic boost to the state of Arizona.

This plant is part of a larger effort to create a new technological hub in the US, and to challenge the dominance of China in the semiconductor industry.

​The 1128 acres of land for the current site was purchased for $89M in December 2020 by TSMC AZ Corp. ​

​The site is located in North Phoenix between Dove Valley road and the Loop 303 freeway, just west of the I-17 interstate that connects Flaggstaff and the Phoenix metro area.

When complete, TSMC Arizona's two fabs will manufacture over 600,000 wafers per year, with estimated end-product value of more than US$40 billion.

​TSMC said it was spending US $12 billion on the Phoenix site, known as Fab 21, with the aim of initially producing 20,000 wafers a month chips on the chipmaker's 5nm manufacturing process by 2024. According to TSMC, Fab 21 will also create more than 1,600 new jobs.

Linde PLC will build, own and operate a $600M complex of on-site plants to supply ultra-high-purity nitrogen, oxygen and argon to the TSMC factory.​
